NEW YORK ELOPEMENTS · FOR COUPLES TRAVELLING FROM THE UK

Elope Like a Tourist in NYC

Say your vows. Wander the streets you came to see. Stop for a slice in your wedding clothes.

If you’re travelling from the UK to get married in New York, your wedding can feel like part of the adventure. A personal ceremony, photographs in a neighbourhood you love and time to enjoy the city together.

I’m Lauren, founder of Pop-Up Vows. I help couples bring the ceremony, photography and planning details together. Tell me the New York you’ve imagined, and we’ll start with a route that makes sense for your day.

A wedding day with a little New York wandering

You don’t need to choose between a meaningful ceremony and the excitement of being here. Start with somewhere suitable for your vows, then choose a small cluster of photo stops nearby. Leave room for a coffee, a cab ride or a table for two afterwards.

The best route is the one you can enjoy. A wedding ceremony, Little Italy, Central Park and an observation deck won’t all fit comfortably into two hours. We’ll choose your priorities around walking distances, guests, access, crowds and the photography coverage in your package.

Choose your corner of the city

These are ideas to shape your plans, rather than fixed packages or reserved locations. Your ceremony setting and any venue permissions need to be confirmed separately.

Little Italy & Chinatown

For couples who want street-level New York: neighbourhood storefronts, lively pavements and a meal worth lingering over. Plan your ceremony at a suitable nearby setting, then explore a manageable stretch of Little Italy and Chinatown for photographs.

Keep the route small, respect local businesses and leave time for pedestrian traffic. A restaurant stop can be a lovely way to celebrate afterwards; reservations and any photography inside are arranged separately.

Central Park & The Met Fifth Avenue

Choose a permitted ceremony setting in Central Park, with a nearby portrait route rather than a cross-city dash. Think paths, architecture and a pause together between photographs.

Love art and classic New York architecture? The Metropolitan Museum of Art gives an Upper East Side day a natural focal point. We’ll confirm suitable exterior viewpoints and any permissions before agreeing your photo route. The Met does not permit unauthorised staged photo shoots; a museum visit is a separate sightseeing plan, rather than an included indoor wedding-photo location.

The New York Public Library & a Midtown skyline

The New York Public Library’s Fifth Avenue landmark is a beautiful starting point for a Midtown-inspired day. We’ll confirm permitted exterior viewpoints and access before planning portraits. Indoor wedding photography and ceremonies require separate arrangements and are not included.

Want Top of the Rock or the Empire State Building too? Choose one skyline experience, with time of its own. Admission does not automatically include permission for a wedding ceremony or professional photography. Empire State Building visitor rules prohibit professional camera equipment and stands. Venue approval, ticketing and any separate arrangements must be checked before a deck becomes part of your wedding plans.

Brooklyn Bridge & Lower Manhattan

If the bridge is the photograph you keep coming back to, make it the focus. We’ll talk through a suitable ceremony location and a realistic nearby portrait route, allowing for the bridge’s public walkways and crowds.

A Statue of Liberty visit is better treated as a separate sightseeing excursion, with ferry schedules and security checks given their own time. It isn’t a promised ceremony location or a quick stop within your photography coverage.

Your ceremony and photography, brought together

The Signature Elopement starts at $2,300 USD and includes your New York wedding officiant, a personalised ceremony, planning consultation, marriage licence signing and filing, ceremony timeline guidance, two hours of professional photography and an edited online gallery.

The Forever Edit starts at $2,800 USD and adds a dedicated wedding-day content creator, vertical phone footage, candid moments and a short-form highlight edit.

Your two hours of photography include the ceremony and portraits. Travel between stops affects how much we can photograph, so we’ll build around the places that matter most to you. Ticketed attractions and any extra coverage need separate arrangements.

Travel and parking fees may apply and will be confirmed in your proposal. Any applicable admission, transport, permit or location charges will be identified separately in your proposal.

Getting married in New York from the UK

Plan your marriage-licence appointment before fixing your wedding-day itinerary. NYC appointments are required; allow at least 24 hours after the licence is issued before your ceremony. Licences are normally valid for 60 days. A valid passport from any country is accepted as ID; check any additional documents needed for your circumstances, especially if either of you has been married before.

Review the current NYC marriage-licence requirements

Check current GOV.UK guidance and the documents you may need to use your marriage certificate back home. Requirements can depend on your circumstances and the organisation requesting it, so confirm whether you need an extended certificate or any authentication before travelling.

Allow time for your arrival, licence appointment and waiting period, with a little space for delays. Your legal paperwork and travel permissions are your responsibility; the official guidance is the place to check current requirements.

Make room for the rest of the trip

Put the licence appointment and ceremony first when planning your travel dates. Then build your sightseeing around them, leaving breathing room for jet lag, weather and queues.

A few practical choices make a difference:

  • Choose comfortable shoes for walking between photographs.

  • Keep luggage and shopping bags out of your wedding-day route.

  • Tell me about guests’ mobility needs before we choose locations.

  • Discuss a weather backup before the day.

  • Save ticketed attractions for a separate time unless access and timing are confirmed in your proposal.

Tell me about your New York

Your travel dates, approximate guest count and the two or three places you’re most excited to see are enough to start. If your flights aren’t booked yet, share the month you have in mind.

I’ll reply with availability and options for a ceremony and photo route that fit your plans.
